Convenient Conveyancing: The Call for More Streamlined Digital Processes

When you buy, or sell a property, you need the help of a conveyancer. A conveyancer makes sure that you meet your legal obligations within the Contract of Sale, works on behalf of your interests and protects your rights during the transaction. Furthermore, he or she helps with the title transfer process by drawing up the necessary paperwork, offering legal advice and arranging the settlements.

Given that conveyancing is a ubiquitous process in home buying, you might assume that people have already streamlined the activity. This, however, is not the case in the UK.

The Government’s Call for Streamlined Processes

Conveyancing UK, an online conveyancing publication, claims that the conveyancing process is still problematic. In fact, the government itself released a report titled Call for Evidence, which consolidated experts opinions on the issues of conveyancing.

Call for Evidence raises several points for improvement. One, parties should do all that they can to reduce transaction times and setbacks, and secondly, conveyancers should remain transparent and provide the information that their clients might need.

With these problematic areas, it comes as no surprise that not all British citizens are happy with conveyancing services. A 2017 survey by Info Track, a software provider, revealed the buyers frustrations over the conveyancing services in the country.

Frustrations about Conveyancing in the UK

Info Tracks study discovered that about 55% of buyers were not fully satisfied with the conveyancing services they received, while 44% stated that they did not receive enough communication during the entire process.

This clashes with the claims of the surveyed conveyancers, about 67% of providers said that they gave their clients ample information.

The dissatisfaction largely stems from the lack of technological progress. The survey showed that about 47% of clients want digital communication platforms, such as online portals and instant messaging, from their conveyancers. Moreover, around 36% said that they want a way to track the progress of their searches and purchases. This way, they have access to information and the power to act against possible setbacks.

Scott Bozinis, the chief executive officer of Info Track, concluded that client expectations are increasing, and conveyancers should create a way to engage with their clients through digital platforms.
